> A leading role in establishing progressive Civil Service laws throughout the United States and Canada

> Development of sound pension systems for professional firefighters and EMS workers, and the protection of these systems from dilution and mergers with less favorable pension plans.

> Reduction of firefighter hours of work

> Raising of recruitment, staffing, training, and equipment standards

> Establishment and fostering of research into firefighter/emergency medical occupational hazards and diseases.

> Passage of heart, lung, cancer and other disability laws.

> Enactment of federal legislation beneficial to firefighters and paramedics and their dependents such as the Public Safety Benefit Act.

> Inclusion of cross-trained / dual role firefighter EMTs and paramedics under provisons of the Fair Labor Standards Act which mandates overtime pay.

> Establishment of effective and practical collective bargaining systems.

> Enactment of U.S. federal guidelines giving firefighters and emergency medical workers the right to find out if they have been exposed to an infectious disease in the line of duty.

> Passage of federal law permanently exempting firefighters from provisions of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

> Enactment of federal legislation to protect and improve the operation firefighter pension plans.

> Development of a comprehensive wellness / fitness program for firefighters that is positive rather than punitive. (Which CFD initially signed onto through the IAFF/IAFC )
