From the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems - The Voice For Public Pensions
To Charlotte Firefighters,
The battle to revamp Social Security raise three concerns for NCPERS/CFFRS Members:
1. Mandatory Social Security coverage has already been raised as one solution - this would devastate plans such as ours;
2. Cuts in Social Security benefits to pay for the transition costs of over $2 trillion to establish private accounts within Social Security;
3. Private accounts would destroy defined benefit plans by giving a boost to those in government who want to destroy our plans and replace them with defined contribution plans. We are already engaged in a major battle in California that we must win for our public employees!
